Cooking and baking has always been a part of my life. Since my youth, I have always been in the kitchen helping my mom. I am constantly looking for a new recipe to try or way in which to improve an old one. I love to cook and bake and was disappointed at the thought of giving it up when I began college. When I moved into my dorm last fall, I was excited to discover a full kitchen in my building. Though cramped, the kitchen has all the basic equipment I need to bake: a refrigerator, microwave, oven, and stove.
Friday Night Baking |
Since I have a meal plan at school, I don't often cook, but I continue to bake. The smell of fresh baked cookies has often lured my dorm mates into the kitchen and baking has been a great bonding activity for us. Every weekend, a few friends and I bake on Friday evenings and then settle into our common room to watch a movie. It is the perfect way to unwind from a long and stressful week.

Though I have been baking for several years, moving from my kitchen at home to the one in my dorm was quite an adjustment. At home I had unlimited resources, whereas at college I am restricted by my utensils, time, space, and budget. I began collecting simple and inexpensive recipes that are easy to bake within the constraints of a college dorm. When talking with my friends, I realized that all college bakers share my frustrations. I decided to upload my college friendly recipes to a blog, so that I could share them with other college students.
